Aku Lulu

Teater Kecil - Taman Ismail Marzuki, 2019

Every person has emotions. We picked up six of them: happy, scared, disgust, angry, shy, and sad. Each one is connected to the other. If one can feel sad, one can be happy, or if one feel sad, it is possible because one is angry. How these emotions relate will form one’s character.

AKU LULU tells the story of a girl whose emotions are pictured in colours: Yellow for happy, Purple for scared, Green for disgust, Red for angry, Pink for shy, and Blue for sad.

One beautiful day, Lulu went out for a picnic. When she arrived home, Mom delivered the news that they would move house. Fear and disgust started to creep in. “What if…. the house is full of mice? What if… the house is haunted?”

Scared and disgust turned her emotions into anger when Mom did not hear her pleading to stay.

The day of moving came and Lulu’s fear seemed real. The house was dirty. It was not pleasant. Mom tried to make it easier by asking her to help clean the house. On the process, their neighbour greeted them and made friends with Mom. She even introduced her daughter to Lulu. Although at the beginning Lulu was shy and reluctant, playing with toys finally warmed her and she started enjoying it.

When the neighbour finally went home at the end of the day, it dawned to Lulu that moving was not bad after all. She regretted how she had behaved to her parents and she apologized. All the emotions took part on Lulu’s growing as a young girl and they helped her to make the family’s bond stronger.
